5 Best Rated Walk-In Shower Companies in Cypress, TX, Ranked for a Place With No City Inspector

If you are comparing the best rated walk in shower companies Cypress homeowners actually hire, start with the fact almost nobody puts in a sales presentation: Cypress is not a city, and no municipal inspector will ever look at the shower you are about to buy.

Cypress is unincorporated Harris County. About 200,839 people live in the 77429 and 77433 ZIP codes as of the 2020 Census, roughly 24 miles northwest of downtown Houston along US 290, and the place is governed by municipal utility districts, homeowners associations and deed restrictions instead of a city hall.

That changes the buying decision completely. In an incorporated city, a bad contractor eventually meets a plumbing inspector. In Cypress, a bad contractor meets your drywall. This ranking is published by Cascade Showerworks, we are first on it, and the criteria are printed below so you can score us the same way you score everyone else.

How We Ranked the Walk-In Shower Companies Serving Cypress

Cypress is a large, wealthy, fast growing market with no municipal building department in it, which means the usual proxy for competence is missing. There is no permit history to look up, no city inspection record, no local contractor registration list. We weighted the criteria below toward the things that substitute for that missing oversight: a crew that is employed rather than rented, a named waterproofing system with a documented test, and a warranty that survives the sale of the house.

This ranking is published by Cascade Showerworks. We are on the list, and we are first on it, so the fair thing to do is show you exactly what we measured and let you check every claim yourself. Every company below is a real business with a verified address, phone number, and Google Business Profile linked in its section.

A ranking methodology graphic for the five best rated walk-in shower companies serving Cypress, Texas, laying out eight scored criteria as labeled columns: shower specialization, installer model, waterproofing system, install timeline, pricing transparency, warranty terms, local accountability and verified public rating. The panel states plainly that Cascade Showerworks publishes this Cypress ranking and discloses that it holds the first position on its own list.

This ranking is published by Cascade Showerworks. We are on the list, and we are first on it, so the fair thing to do is show you exactly what we measured and let you check every claim yourself. Every company below is a real business with a verified address, phone number, and Google Business Profile linked in its section.

What We Measured

  • Shower specialization
How much of the company's work is showers rather than kitchens, floors, and whole-bath gut jobs
  • Installer model
Certified W2 employees who set showers daily versus rotating subcontract crews
  • Waterproofing system
A named, tested waterproofing assembly rather than "we seal it well"
  • Install timeline
Days the bathroom is out of service, and whether the quoted timeline is contractual
  • Pricing transparency
One flat written number before demolition versus an estimate that moves
  • Warranty
Length, what it actually covers, and whether it transfers to the next owner
  • Local accountability
Locally owned and reachable versus a franchise territory or a call center
  • Public rating
Google rating and review volume, verified at the time of writing

We did not rank on advertising spend, showroom size, or how many services a company offers. A walk-in shower is a waterproofing project with glass on it, and the companies that do it best are the ones that do it most.

The Five, Side by Side

The 5 Best Rated Walk-In Shower Companies in Cypress, Side by Side

All five are real businesses with verified phone numbers, and all five will drive to Cypress. They are not doing the same job, and the right answer depends on how much of your bathroom is moving. Two of them build showers as a specialty. Two are dealer or franchise operations organized around a manufactured system. One is a full bathroom remodeler that sells showers among other things.

A five column comparison chart of the best rated walk-in shower companies serving Cypress, Texas, lining up Cascade Showerworks, Simplicity Bath and Shower, Re-Bath Houston, Luxury Bath of Houston and EZ Bath against shower specialization, crew model, post tension slab experience, documented waterproofing testing and typical bathroom downtime. The chart helps Cy-Fair homeowners searching for walk in shower companies near me see the structural differences before booking three in-home estimates.

Cypress · Unincorporated Harris County & Permitting

Cypress Is Not a City: What Unincorporated Harris County Actually Changes

Cypress has no mayor, no city council, no city building department and no city inspector. It is unincorporated Harris County territory sitting inside the City of Houston extraterritorial jurisdiction, which affects platting and subdivision, not the permit on your bathroom.

So who does govern it? Harris County for a narrow set of things. A municipal utility district for water, sewer and drainage. A homeowners association and a recorded set of deed restrictions for what your property looks like. That is the whole stack.

A map style graphic of northwest Harris County showing Cypress as unincorporated territory between US 290 and the Grand Parkway, with no municipal boundary around it, overlaid with the layers that do govern the area: municipal utility district service boundaries, homeowners association neighborhoods, the Cypress Creek and Little Cypress Creek watersheds, and the Cy-Fair ISD footprint. The image explains permit authority for Cypress, Texas walk-in shower remodels.
Unincorporated Harris County Houston ETJ & MUD Stack Cypress Creek Watershed

What Harris County Actually Permits

The Harris County Office of the County Engineer runs the Permits Division out of 1111 Fannin, 8th Floor, in downtown Houston. Its published permit catalog lists what the county issues, and it is worth reading closely because of what is missing.

The county issues a Commercial Building permit that explicitly covers remodeling, renovation and additions. On the residential side, the list covers Residential Construction and On-site Sewage System, Residential Conversion for a boarding or lodging home, residential water wells, on-site sewage feasibility studies, swimming pools, driveways and minor site development, model homes and tract home builders.

There is no residential building permit for an interior remodel. Commercial remodels are permitted work in unincorporated Harris County. Residential interior remodels are not.

Why the County Cannot Simply Add One

This is not an oversight in Cypress. It is Texas law. Under the Texas Local Government Code, county authority over construction in unincorporated areas is narrow and specific.

The county fire code provisions apply to commercial establishments, public buildings and multifamily dwellings of four or more units in counties over 250,000 population. Harris County clears the population threshold, and single-family houses are still outside the scope.

The residential building standards subchapter, which would let a county enforce the International Residential Code, applies only to counties within 50 miles of an international border or to counties that adopt it by resolution, and it forbids charging a fee for it. Harris County is not a border county.

The One Big Exception: The Floodplain

If your Cypress house sits in a Special Flood Hazard Area, everything above flips. Harris County states that a Floodplain Development Permit is required for all work in the floodplain, and that a property in the Special Flood Hazard Area needs a Residential Permit Application and compliance with the county Floodplain Management Regulations for any work.

That permitting exists so unincorporated Harris County stays eligible for flood insurance through the National Flood Insurance Program. It is not a building code. It is an elevation and drainage rule with federal money behind it.

It matters here because Cypress sits in the Cypress Creek watershed, 267 square miles with roughly 250 miles of open waterways and about 453,399 residents on the Harris County side as of the 2020 Census, plus the Little Cypress Creek subwatershed. A meaningful number of Cypress homes are mapped inside a flood hazard area, and if yours is one of them, the permit question has a real answer.

What They Do

Cascade Showerworks installs showers and nothing else. No vanities, no flooring, no kitchens, no whole-bath gut jobs. Tub to shower conversions, walk-in shower replacements, curbless and barrier-free showers, glass enclosures, and the waterproofing and drain work underneath all of it.

The systems are Samuel Mueller and Transolid solid surface and cast acrylic, in three series with published price bands: Pioneer at $9,200 to $14,400, BelAir at $11,800 to $17,600, and Luxura at $14,400 to $21,900. Those numbers are printed on the company website, which is not something most walk in shower companies near me searches will turn up.

Who They Are Right For

The Cypress homeowner with a 1995 to 2015 production house whose primary bath still has the original corner garden tub deck and a small builder shower next to it. That is the single most common shower project in Cy-Fair, and it is a shower job, not a bathroom job.

It is also the right call precisely because nobody else is going to check the work. A shower-only company that sets showers every day and warranties them for the life of the house has a different incentive than a crew that will not be back.

How They Install

Certified W2 employees, not rotating subcontractors, with lead installers carrying Samuel Mueller certification identification. The standard shower install runs one day, roughly 7:30 in the morning to 5:30 in the evening, with the shower usable after the silicone cures overnight.

The waterproofing is a named bonded system rather than a generic seal, and the pan gets a flood test before anything covers it. In a jurisdiction with no inspector, that test is the inspection.

How Cascade installs — step by step

Step 1 of 5
Free in-home consultation with shower samples in your own bathroom light.
Digital template taken of the opening to confirm exact fit before ordering.
Samuel Mueller solid surface shower system built to order for your exact opening.
Install day: certified W2 crew arrives 7:30 am, shower system in by 5:30 pm.
Warranty registered with Samuel Mueller same day. Shower ready after 24-hour silicone cure.
Step 1 In-home consultation

Certified W2 employees, not rotating subcontractors. The cast iron branch and galvanized supply get inspected before the price is set, and plumbing line items are quoted on their own days rather than folded into the one-day promise.

Verified Credentials

Credential What It Means on a Memorial Shower
Shower-only specialist, not a general remodeler taking shower work between kitchens Every crew day is a shower day — the wall assembly answer comes from repetition, not from a subcontractor briefed that morning
Samuel Mueller certified installers carrying certification identification on the job A named, tested waterproofing assembly rather than a promise to seal it well
Certified W2 crews, never rotating subcontract labor The same people who measured your floor are the ones building on it
A+ BBB rated and 4.9 stars across 30-plus verified Google reviews Verify it live before you sign, the same way you should verify everyone on this page
One day installs on standard shower systems, with slab and drain work quoted separately The one-day promise does not absorb drain relocation or branch line replacement — those are quoted and scheduled separately
Flat written pricing with no surprise change orders after demolition The number you sign is the number; changes require your written approval before we proceed
Lifetime transferable warranty that follows the house to the next owner, which matters in a market with Cy-Fair turnover It follows the house, which matters in Memorial where homes trade well above Harris County averages

The Caveat

If you want the vanity, mirrors, lighting, floor tile and closet done at the same time, Cascade is not the whole answer. They will build the shower and coordinate around your other trades, but you are hiring a second contractor for the rest of the room.

That is the tradeoff of a specialist, and it is deliberate. The company is at number one because of what it refuses to do, not in spite of it.

Why It Ranks First

Shower-only specialization. Certified W2 crews. A named waterproofing assembly. A one-day install window scheduled around City of Houston inspections. A flat written price. A lifetime transferable warranty. The criteria line up because the company does one thing, repeatedly.

Get one flat written price in your Cypress bathroom — before any demolition.

No moving estimates. No surprises after the tile comes off.

What They Do

Simplicity Bath & Shower works out of Katy and covers greater Houston, including Cypress and the Cy-Fair corridor. The company builds solid surface showers, custom showers, tub to shower conversions, walk-in tubs and complete bathroom remodels including cabinets, vanities and countertops.

They market accessible and aging-in-place work as a stated specialty. In Cypress that lands with the first wave of Fairfield and Coles Crossing buyers, who moved in during the late 1990s and are now planning to stay put in a two story house with the primary suite downstairs.

Who They Are Right For

The Cypress homeowner who wants the shower and the rest of the bathroom handled under one contract and prefers a grout-free solid surface finish to tile. Simplicity states on its own website that it works from upfront pricing without a high-pressure sales presentation, which is not universal in this category.

They are a reasonable call for a shower remodel Cypress TX project where the scope creeps past the shower into the vanity wall or the water closet.

How They Install

In-house teams on a project schedule rather than a fixed one-day model. Timeline depends on scope, and a full bath remodel will run considerably longer than a shower swap. The company states more than twenty years in the remodeling industry.

The Caveat

Geography is the honest issue. Katy to Cypress is a cross-county run up the Grand Parkway, and a company headquartered south of I-10 is scheduling your Cy-Fair days around that trip. Ask what a warranty callback looks like in year three.

The wider service menu also means the depth of experience on post-tension slab work specifically is a question worth asking directly at the estimate, since almost every Cypress house built after 2000 sits on one.

When This Is the Right Call

If the scope grows past the shower into the vanity wall, countertop, or the closet next to it, a design-build company managing all of it has a real coordination advantage over multiple trades.

What They Do

Re-Bath is a national bathroom remodeling franchise, and the Houston location operates out of North Sam Houston Parkway West, which is a straight shot to Cypress on Beltway 8. The scope is the whole bathroom: tub to shower conversions, shower and tub replacements, accessible and ADA-oriented bathrooms, walk-in tubs, flooring, vanities and lighting.

The company runs a design center model with in-house designers and its own product lines, so selections happen in a showroom rather than out of a sample case on your kitchen island.

Who They Are Right For

A Cypress homeowner replacing an entire dated bathroom in one contract with one point of accountability, who values a showroom selection process and a national warranty structure over a local specialist relationship.

A 1998 secondary bath in Coles Crossing or Longwood with a cultured marble tub surround, a builder vanity and sheet vinyl on the floor is exactly the job this model is built for.

How They Install

Re-Bath advertises most standard bathroom remodels completing in roughly three to five days using its proprietary installation process and product system, with installation handled by franchise-managed crews and licensed trades.

The Caveat

Franchise means the sign is national and the crew is local, and the crew is the part that installs your shower. In a place with no inspector, that distinction gets larger. Ask who specifically is doing the work, whether they are employees of the franchise, and how a warranty claim gets routed two years from now.

Ask also how the pan is tested before it is covered, because a design center presentation rarely gets to that page.

The Full-Bath Advantage

If the 1965 hall bath needs everything — flooring, vanity, fixtures, lighting and the shower — one company managing all of it has a real coordination advantage over four trades with you as the general contractor.

What They Do

Luxury Bath of Houston, formerly Bath Planet of Greater Houston, is a dealer in a national acrylic bath system network serving the Houston market. The product line covers replacement tubs, shower systems, walk-in tubs, tub to shower conversions and barrier-free roll-in bases, all built around molded acrylic warranted not to crack, chip or fade.

Who They Are Right For

The tub to shower conversion Cypress homeowner working on a secondary bath, a guest bath or a rental in one of the 1990s and 2000s subdivisions, where the existing 60 inch alcove is the whole scope. Acrylic has no grout, it wipes clean, and it goes in fast.

It is also a fair option for an aging-in-place upgrade where a low threshold base and a grab bar solve the problem and a full curbless build is more project than the situation calls for.

How They Install

The system is designed for a one-day installation in an existing opening, using dealer installation crews. The dealer network model means each location is independently owned and operated, so the install experience is local under a national brand.

The Caveat

An acrylic system is built to fit the opening you already have. That is the entire value proposition and also the limit. A Cypress primary bath where a corner garden tub deck comes out leaves an odd, angled footprint that no standard panel set was drawn for, and that is a different conversation.

Note also that this company does not publish a street address for its Houston operation. Confirm where the crew is dispatched from and who holds the warranty before you sign.

When Acrylic Makes Sense

For a Memorial guest bath or second bathroom where the existing footprint works and speed matters, a fitted acrylic system is a sensible and well-proven answer. No grout to maintain, one-day install, and a defined warranty on the product.

What They Do

EZ Bath is a family-owned bathroom remodeling company based in Tomball, covering the greater Houston metro. The work is full bathroom remodels, tub to shower conversions, shower remodels, walk-in tubs, bathtub work and vanities.

The company states on its own site that it builds with named product partners including Onyx Collection solid surface, Kerdi waterproofing, Delta fixtures and Bishop cabinets, which is more supply chain transparency than most companies in this category publish.

Who They Are Right For

A homeowner who wants a bathroom done quickly by a small family-run operation and cares more about turnaround and cost than about a shower specialist relationship. Tomball is close to the north side of Cypress, which shortens the drive on anything near Boudreaux Road, Mueschke or the Bridgeland side of 290.

How They Install

In-house crews on a tight multi-day schedule, with a limited warranty on labor and installation layered under the manufacturer warranties from its product partners.

The Caveat

The fast-turnaround model is built around conventional curbed installations in existing openings. A curbless build over a post-tension slab in a Towne Lake or Bridgeland house is a different kind of job and should be priced as one.

A limited labor warranty is also a different instrument than a lifetime transferable one. In a neighborhood where houses trade every seven or eight years, ask what happens to the coverage at closing.

The Named-Partner Advantage

Publishing product partners before the contract is signed is a meaningful gesture of transparency. Kerdi waterproofing named on the website is a more specific answer than "we use premium materials."

Kingwood · Structural Framing & Floor Deflection

Floor Deflection Upstairs: L/360 for Porcelain, L/720 for Stone, and Why It Decides Your Tile

A concrete slab does not move. A wood floor does, and tile and grout do not bend. That is the entire reason an upstairs shower has a structural specification attached to it.

This is a number, not an opinion, and it belongs in your quote in writing.

L/360 • Ceramic & Porcelain 0.43 in allowed deflection on 13 ft span
L/720 • Natural Stone 0.22 in allowed deflection (twice as stiff)
A cutaway diagram of a second floor bathroom floor assembly in a Kingwood two story home, showing joists, a two layer subfloor, an uncoupling membrane, a sloped pan, tile and the finished ceiling of the room below, with live load deflection annotated as L divided by 360 for porcelain and L divided by 720 for natural stone. The graphic explains to Kingwood homeowners why an upper floor tile shower is a framing question long before it is a tile showroom question.
L/360 Porcelain Limit L/720 Stone Standard Two-Layer Subfloor

The Two Numbers

The Tile Council of North America Handbook sets a live load deflection limit of L divided by 360 for ceramic and porcelain tile installed over a wood framed floor. For natural stone, the TCNA Handbook and the Natural Stone Institute Dimension Stone Design Manual both require L divided by 720, which is twice as stiff.

Put that in inches. A 13 foot joist span at L/360 is allowed about 0.43 inches of live load deflection. The same span at L/720 is allowed about 0.22 inches. That is the difference between a floor that can carry porcelain and a floor that can carry marble, on the identical framing.

Stone carries a second requirement with it: a two layer subfloor, meaning a structural subfloor plus a plywood underlayment, for every stone installation including small mosaics. If a company quotes a marble mosaic shower floor upstairs and never mentions the subfloor, they have not run the number.

Why This Bites in a Kingwood House Specifically

Kingwood floor plans from the late 1970s onward like a two story entry and a big open family room, and both of those want long clear spans on the ground floor. Long clear spans downstairs mean long joist spans upstairs, and the primary suite frequently sits directly over the family room or the breakfast area.

The 1990s and 2000s villages add engineered floor trusses and I-joists, which span farther on paper and are less forgiving when somebody cuts a web or drills the wrong flange to run a drain. On a truss you do not drill anything without the truss manufacturer detail.

What Actually Stiffens a Springy Floor

Sistering joists, adding a beam or a bearing point below, shortening the effective span, or adding a structural layer. Those are the real answers. Adding more thinset is not one, and neither is a thicker tile.

The cheaper answer is frequently a material change. Moving from natural stone to large format porcelain drops the requirement from L/720 back to L/360 and can take the framing question off the table entirely. A solid surface or acrylic panel system takes it off the table further still, because a panel wall is not a rigid jointed assembly at all.

Curbless and Barrier-Free Specification on a Kingwood Upper Floor

A curbless walk in shower Kingwood homeowners want on a second floor is framing work, not concrete work. Either the joists in the shower bay are dropped or sistered so the pan recesses into the floor system, or the bathroom floor outside the shower is built up and the shower stays where it is. Both are permitted, inspected, engineered work, and both should be priced as their own line.

Specification Requirement Why It Matters on a Second Floor in Kingwood
Minimum floor slope to drain
1/4 in per ft
Code minimum, and the number an inspector looks for
Practical maximum slope
About 1/2 in per ft
Past this a shower chair rolls and bare feet notice it
Deflection for ceramic and porcelain
L divided by 360 live load
The TCNA Handbook minimum over wood framing
Deflection for natural stone
L divided by 720 live load
Twice the stiffness for the same span and the same stone
13 ft span at L/360
About 0.43 in of allowed deflection
A usable check on whether your framing qualifies
13 ft span at L/720
About 0.22 in of allowed deflection
Why stone upstairs is a framing conversation
Subfloor for stone
Two layers, subfloor plus underlayment
Required for all stone sizes including mosaics
Curbless on a wood floor
Drop or sister joists in the shower bay, or build the room floor up
Engineered framing work with an inspection, not a tile detail
Clear interior for a roll-in shower
60 by 30 in minimum
Usually means taking the linen closet in a Kingwood upstairs bath
Clear floor outside the entry
About 24 in
Somewhere dry to stand with no curb stopping the drips
Grab bar blocking
Behind the board before waterproofing
Costs almost nothing now and means a wall demo later
Floor truss or I-joist modification
Only per the manufacturer detail
Cutting a web or a flange is a structural failure, not a shortcut
Cypress · Regional Governance & MUD Authority

MUDs, HOAs and Deed Restrictions: Who Really Governs a Cypress Bathroom

When people say Cypress is unregulated, they are wrong in a specific way. There is no building code authority. There is plenty of other governance, and it can still reach into your project.

A Cypress, Texas homeowner sitting at a kitchen table reviewing a homeowners association architectural guideline booklet and a municipal utility district water bill side by side with a shower remodel proposal, with a Bridgeland or Towne Lake style neighborhood visible through the window. The image explains the governance layers that replace a city building department for walk in shower installation Cypress and Cy-Fair projects.
MUD Water Regulations Texas Property Code 209 Bridgeland & Towne Lake Rules

What a MUD Is and What It Does

A municipal utility district is a political subdivision of the State of Texas with an elected board of directors, regulated by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. It provides water, wastewater and drainage service, funds the infrastructure with bonds, and repays those bonds through a district property tax and utility rates. Harris County contains hundreds of them, and Cypress is covered by dozens.

A MUD is not a building department. It will not review your shower or inspect your membrane. What it does control is the water itself: the tap, the meter, the pressure at your house, backflow requirements, and the bill.

Why MUD Water Matters to a Shower Purchase

Northwest Harris County has historically pumped groundwater, and the Harris-Galveston Subsidence District, created by the Legislature in 1975 to stop land subsidence, has been forcing the region off it. The West Harris County Regional Water Authority was created by the Legislature in 2001 to run that conversion for the districts in this area.

The mandated schedule is 30 percent surface water by 2010, which was accomplished, 60 percent by 2025, and 80 percent by 2035. The authority reports delivering to 70 water plants with 49 districts receiving surface water across more than 81 miles of distribution waterline.

The practical effect in your bathroom is that the mineral content of the water hitting your glass is changing over time, and it varies from district to district as blends shift. Ask your MUD for its consumer confidence report before you choose between clear glass, a coated glass, and a low-maintenance panel system with no grout in it.

What Your HOA Can and Cannot Require

Texas Property Code Chapter 209 governs residential property owners associations. Under Section 209.00505, associations with more than 40 lots that are past the development period must run architectural review through a defined process: a denial has to be in writing with the basis stated in reasonable detail, and the owner can appeal to the board within 30 days, with a hearing held within 30 days of that request.

Sections 209.006 and 209.007 require certified mail notice, a description of the violation and a reasonable cure period before an association fines you, and an owner who cures inside the deadline cannot be fined.

Almost no Cypress HOA reviews interior work. What they do review, and what a shower project touches more often than people expect, is everything that happens outside the front door.

The HOA Items That Actually Come Up on a Shower Job

Dumpsters and roll-off containers in the driveway or the street, which many Cy-Fair associations limit by duration or prohibit on the street entirely

Portable toilets on site, commonly restricted by placement and by how long they can stay

Contractor parking and work hours, which matter on a narrow Bridgeland or Towne Lake street with a rear alley

Any new exterior penetration, such as a relocated exhaust fan vent or a new roof jack, which is an exterior modification even though the reason for it is inside

Material storage and staging in the front yard, which turns into a violation letter faster than anything else on this list

Debris and dust control on shared drives and alleys, especially in the newer high density sections of Bridgeland

Cypress Housing Stock: 1995 to 2020 Production Homes and What Is In Their Bathrooms

Cypress is a production housing market. The rural Cy-Fair of the 1970s is essentially gone, replaced by roughly three decades of continuous subdivision development, and the bathrooms follow the decade the house was built with real consistency.

Cypress-Fairbanks ISD covers 186 square miles and is the third largest district in Texas with more than 118,000 students, which is a fair proxy for how much of this landscape went from pasture to rooftops between 1990 and now.

Garden Tub Deck Removal Bridgeland • Towne Lake Post-Tension Foundation

The 1995 to 2005 Wave: Fairfield, Coles Crossing, Longwood, Stone Gate

These are two story brick production homes on slab, built out through the late 1990s and early 2000s. The primary bath is the classic builder layout: a corner or alcove garden tub in a cultured marble or tile deck, a separate 36 by 48 or 42 by 48 shower with a curb and a swinging glass door, a double vanity and a separate water closet.

The shower in that layout is small, it is the original builder unit, and it has been used every day for twenty-five years. The garden tub next to it has been used a handful of times. That is the number one tub to shower conversion Cypress project, and it is not really a conversion at all. It is removing a deck and building one large shower where two fixtures used to be.

What You Find Behind Those Walls

Cultured marble panels over greenboard, one-piece fiberglass units with integral curbs, mud-set tile pans with a sheet liner and no bonded membrane, and builder-grade valves that are now obsolete parts. Deck-mounted garden tub valves in particular are frequently a discontinued trim, which is why a leak on one of these turns into a remodel conversation.

Secondary baths in this era are 60 inch tub and shower alcoves with a cultured marble or tile surround, which is the cleanest possible acrylic conversion and the reason companies four and five on this list exist.

The 2005 to 2015 Wave: Blackhorse Ranch, Miramesa, Cypress Creek Lakes, Canyon Lakes

Larger primary baths, more tile, and the arrival of the framed frameless-look enclosure. Showers in this era are often site-built tile over a foam pan or a mud bed, and this is where waterproofing quality varies the most.

It is also where post-tension slabs became the norm rather than the exception across Harris County production construction. That single fact rules out saw-cutting the slab for a recessed curbless pan on most of these houses, which pushes any barrier-free project toward a raised floor or a low-profile ramped entry.

The Newest Builds: Bridgeland and Towne Lake

Bridgeland is a Howard Hughes community covering roughly 11,500 acres in four villages, Lakeland, Creekland, Prairieland and Parkland. Construction began in October 2003, home sales opened in 2006, and the plan is about 20,000 homes and roughly 70,000 residents with 3,000 acres of open space including 900 acres of lakes, with build-out estimated around 2037.

Towne Lake, developed by Caldwell Communities, is built around a 300 acre private lake with about 14 miles of shoreline and marked 20 years in 2024.

The bathrooms in these newer sections are a different problem. Many builder plans now ship a large tiled shower with no tub at all, or a shower and freestanding tub sharing a wet area. The frames are already sized correctly. What people call us about is that the builder shower is a base grade tile assembly with a builder pan, a builder valve, and a glass panel that leaks at the bottom track, in a house that is only six years old.

The Second-Owner Problem

Cy-Fair inventory turns. A large share of the shower work in Cypress is a second owner discovering that a shower that looked fine at the inspection has efflorescence at the base, a soft spot at the curb, or a musty smell in the closet on the other side of the wall.

Nobody inspected that shower when it was built either. Which is the same point this entire page keeps arriving at.

What the Housing Stock Means for Your Quote

01

Assume a post-tension slab on essentially anything built after 2000, which means no saw cutting and no coring without a scan, and a curbless design that works above the slab instead of into it

02

Assume the garden tub deck is the project in a 1995 to 2010 primary bath, and that removing it leaves a footprint no stock panel kit was drawn for

03

Assume a 60 inch alcove in the secondary baths, which is the cleanest and cheapest conversion in the house

04

Assume no bonded membrane behind any original builder tile shower from this era, because a sheet liner in a mud bed was the standard and it was cheap

05

Assume the valve is obsolete on anything original, and price a new valve body rather than a trim kit swap

06

Assume two story with the primary down in most of the 1995 to 2010 stock, which is why aging in place drives so much Cy-Fair shower work

07

Assume nobody ever inspected it, in the original build or the last remodel, and price a real look behind the wall

Curbless Walk In Shower Cypress: Building Barrier-Free Over a Post-Tension Slab

Curbless is the fastest growing request in Cypress, and the answer here is different from the answer in an older inner-loop neighborhood. In a 1950s house you can often saw-cut the slab. In a 2006 Cypress house you usually cannot.

A cutaway diagram of a curbless walk-in shower built over a post tension slab in a Cypress, Texas home, showing high strength steel tendons running uncut inside the concrete, a raised bathroom floor built up above the slab, a low profile linear drain set in the buildup, a bonded waterproofing membrane running past the shower opening, and the finished flush tile plane at the entry. The drawing explains barrier free construction for Cy-Fair production homes.
Post-Tension Tendons Intact Low-Profile Linear Drain Continuous Membrane

Why the Slab Type Decides Everything

A post-tension slab holds high-strength steel tendons under enormous load. Cut one and it can release violently, and the structural repair is expensive and unpleasant. Production construction across Harris County moved heavily to post-tension slabs in the 2000s, so most of Cypress is in that category.

Any company that offers to recess your Cypress slab for a flush pan without first proposing a ground-penetrating radar scan is telling you something important about how they work.

The Two Methods That Do Work Here

Method 01

Raise the bathroom floor. The slab stays untouched. The floor outside the shower gets built up 1.5 to 2 inches with a self-leveling underlayment or a sleeper and backer system, and the shower footprint stays at slab height so the slope fits underneath the new plane. It is quiet, fast, and completely safe on post-tension.

Method 02

Build a shallow ramped entry with a low-profile linear drain. No concrete work and no floor buildup. A gentle transition at the opening instead of a curb, with the drain placed as a trench at the entry so water is intercepted before it can travel. This is not wheelchair-flush, but it removes the trip hazard, which is what most aging-in-place buyers actually need.

What Raising the Floor Costs You Elsewhere

The door has to be cut down or reset, the casing gets trimmed, the toilet flange gets extended, the vanity toe kick loses height, and you get a 1.5 to 2 inch transition at the bathroom doorway. In a two story Cypress plan with 8 foot ceilings on the primary floor, that math has to be checked before anything is ordered.

The Wet Zone Gets Bigger Without a Curb

A curb is a dam. Take it away and there is nothing telling water where to stop, so the bonded membrane has to run 24 to 36 inches past the opening at minimum. In a typical Cypress primary bath the smarter move is usually to waterproof the entire floor, because the area difference is small and the failure cost is not.

Where Water Escapes a Curbless Cypress Bathroom

01

Past the opening across the floor, which is why the membrane cannot stop at the shower footprint

02

Down the wall to floor transition, where a preformed corner or a properly detailed fabric band is the difference between a system and a hope

03

Around the drain flange, the single most common failure point in any shower ever built

04

Through the bench or niche, both of which are slope and membrane details, not carpentry details

05

Behind the glass channel, where a U-channel screwed through a membrane without sealant is a manufactured leak

06

Under the door threshold, where a raised floor meets bedroom flooring and the transition needs its own waterproof detail

2026 Houston Market Analysis · Cypress Flat Estimates

Walk In Shower Cost Cypress: What These Projects Run in the 2026 Houston Market

National cost data for 2026 puts a walk-in shower installation at about $8,000 on average, with a typical range of $5,000 to $11,000 and high-end custom builds running $20,000 and up. Prefabricated shower bodies run roughly $2,000 to $8,000 installed, custom builds $5,000 to $20,000.

Houston market shower remodels average near $6,900, with the broader range running about $1,970 to $8,870 and walk-in showers specifically landing between roughly $5,920 and $11,830.

None of those numbers include a garden tub deck coming out, which is the defining Cypress line item. Demolishing a deck, correcting the framing under it, and building one shower in a footprint that was drawn for two fixtures is a different job than swapping an alcove.

Labor is 40 to 60 percent of a shower project. In this market plumbers run roughly $45 to $200 per hour, tile installers $60 to $120, and electricians $45 to $95, which is why a company that sends the same certified crew every day prices differently than one assembling a crew per job.

Material Architecture · Cypress Production Homes

Acrylic and Solid Surface Versus Tile in a Cypress Production Bathroom

This is where a Cypress budget gets decided, and the water is part of the decision. Northwest Harris County water is a shifting blend of groundwater and treated surface water, and mineral spotting on glass and grout is a real maintenance line in this market.

A material comparison layout for Cypress, Texas bathroom projects showing a compression molded solid surface shower panel, a cast acrylic wall panel, 12 by 24 porcelain tile with grout joints and a large format porcelain slab arranged on a table beside a grout sealer, a squeegee and a hard water spotted glass sample. The comparison helps Cy-Fair homeowners weigh maintenance, installed cost and one day install feasibility for a shower remodel in a production home.
Compression Solid Surface Cast Acrylic Panels Porcelain & Natural Stone

Solid Surface and Cast Acrylic

Panelized walls with no grout joints anywhere. Nothing to seal, nothing to scrub, and a wall assembly that installs in a single day because it is manufactured before it arrives rather than built on your studs.

For a Cypress homeowner who does not want a standing maintenance chore, this is usually the answer. The tradeoff is that a molded base is manufactured to a footprint, so a combined garden tub and shower area has to be specified up front, not adapted on site.

Porcelain Tile

The default for a custom look, and the only surface that gives you a continuous floor plane running from inside the shower out into the room with no material change at the opening. That continuity is most of what people are buying when they say curbless.

Porcelain absorbs less than half a percent water by weight, which is the right property for a Houston bathroom. Large-format porcelain over a linear drain gets you a floor with almost no grout and walls with one or two joints instead of a grid.

Natural Stone

Marble and limestone look expensive because they are, and they are porous. Expect an impregnating sealer on a schedule and expect honed marble to etch anywhere an acidic cleaner touches it. It is a design decision with a maintenance contract attached, and that contract should be written down.

The Questions That Separate Them

Questions to Ask Before You Sign With Any Cypress Walk In Shower Company

Three companies will quote your bathroom and the numbers will be thousands apart. The spread is almost never the tile. It is the pan, the membrane, the drain, and whether anybody intends to test the thing. In a jurisdiction with no inspector, these questions are the inspection you get to run yourself.

Question 01

Do you flood test the pan, and for how long?

The answer you want

If the answer is not a number of hours and a photograph, there is no test

Question 02

Which waterproofing membrane, by name, and does it meet ANSI A118.10?

The answer you want

Ask to see the data sheet at the estimate, not at the install

Question 03

Who makes the drain, and is it part of the same tested system as the membrane?

The answer you want

Two manufacturers with no tested bond is a joint waiting to leak

Question 04

My slab is post-tension. What is your plan?

The answer you want

The correct answer never begins with cutting it

Question 05

Are the installers your W2 employees?

The answer you want

In Cypress the crew is the entire quality control system, so their employment status is a material fact

Question 06

Is my price flat and written before demolition?

The answer you want

The only correct answer on a change is a written change order you approve first

Question 07

Does the warranty transfer to the next owner?

The answer you want

In a Cy-Fair market that turns over regularly, a transferable warranty is worth real money at closing

Question 08

Is my lot in a Special Flood Hazard Area, and does that change anything?

The answer you want

A company working Cypress should already know how to check

Most-Asked Questions
Updated for 2026 Cypress market

This page ranks five: Cascade Showerworks, Simplicity Bath & Shower, Re-Bath Houston, Luxury Bath of Houston and EZ Bath. Cascade publishes the ranking and is first on it, measured against shower specialization, installer model, waterproofing system, timeline, pricing transparency, warranty, local accountability and public rating. Every criterion is printed near the top of this page so you can score them yourself against the estimates you collect.

For interior residential work outside the floodplain, no. Cypress is unincorporated Harris County, there is no city building department, and the Harris County permit catalog has no residential building permit covering an interior remodel. The exception is significant: if your lot is in a Special Flood Hazard Area, Harris County requires a Floodplain Development Permit for all work in the floodplain, along with a Residential Permit Application and compliance with the county floodplain regulations. Verify your address with the Harris County Permits Division at 713-274-3900 before assuming either way.

No, and this is the most expensive misunderstanding in Cy-Fair. State plumbing and electrical licensure still applies, Texas defaults to the Uniform Plumbing Code and the International Plumbing Code, manufacturer installation instructions still control the product warranty, and your contract is still enforceable. What is missing is enforcement, not standards. That is why the contractor you choose is the only quality check your shower will ever receive.

A municipal utility district is a political subdivision of Texas with an elected board, regulated by the TCEQ, that provides water, wastewater and drainage and funds the infrastructure with bonds repaid through district taxes and rates. It is not a building department and it will not inspect your shower. It does control your water tap, meter, pressure and water quality, which is worth knowing before you choose glass and grout.

Almost never for interior work. Texas Property Code Chapter 209 gives associations architectural review authority, with a written denial and an appeal to the board within 30 days under Section 209.00505, and requires certified mail notice and a cure period before a fine. What Cy-Fair associations actually enforce on a shower job is exterior: dumpster and portable toilet placement, work hours, contractor parking, material storage in the yard, and any new roof or wall penetration for a relocated vent.

Yes, but not by cutting the slab. Most Cypress homes built after 2000 sit on post-tension slabs, and the tendons in them are under load. The two methods that work are raising the bathroom floor 1.5 to 2 inches so the shower can stay at slab height, or building a shallow ramped entry with a low-profile linear drain. Any quote that proposes recessing your slab should include a ground-penetrating radar scan as a line item, and most of the time the right answer is to design above the slab instead.

National 2026 data puts walk-in shower installation near $8,000 on average with a $5,000 to $11,000 typical range, and Houston market walk-in showers run roughly $5,920 to $11,830. Cascade publishes system pricing from $9,200 to $21,900 depending on series. In Cypress, add $2,000 to $5,500 when a garden tub deck comes out and the framing has to be corrected, plus $600 to $1,600 for a ramped barrier-free entry or $1,800 to $4,500 for a raised floor.

The drain is plugged, the pan is filled with water to the level of the rough threshold, and the water is held while somebody watches the level. Cascade holds it 24 hours and photographs the water line at the start and finish. It matters more here because there is no municipal plumbing inspector who will ever look inside your wall. The flood test is the only independent verification your shower is going to get, and it only exists if your contractor performs it.

A Cascade shower system install is a one-day job, roughly 7:30 in the morning to 5:30 in the evening, with the shower usable after the silicone cures overnight. Add a day when a garden tub deck comes out and the framing needs correction, add time for a raised floor build and its door and flange work, and add the 24 hour flood test window. There is no municipal inspection queue in Cypress, so the schedule is driven by the work rather than by a county calendar.

Removing the last tub in a house can hurt with buyers who have young children. In Cypress that is rarely the situation, because the 1995 to 2015 production plans that have a garden tub in the primary almost always have a tub and shower alcove in a secondary bath. Converting the primary to one large walk-in shower reads as an upgrade in this market, and a lifetime transferable warranty is a document you can hand the next owner at closing.
