Frameless Glass Shower Enclosures and Doors. Templated, Hung, Sealed in One Day.
· Reviewed by the Cascade ShowerWorks installation team · Sam Mueller-Certified Installer Lead on every job
A shower enclosure should not be a hardware-store kit screwed into your wall studs. Cascade ShowerWorks installs framed bypass doors, semi-frameless sliders, and frameless tempered glass enclosures, leveled and sealed by the same Sam Mueller-certified lead installer who set your shower base.
Old door out, new enclosure templated, fabricated, and installed in one day when bundled with a full system. Standalone door swaps install on a separate day after templating. One written quote. Lifetime hardware warranty.

What a Cascade ShowerWorks Shower Enclosure Means
A Cascade ShowerWorks shower enclosure is the glass that contains your shower spray. We install three configurations: frameless 3/8-inch tempered glass, semi-frameless 5/16-inch sliders, and frameless inline-panel-plus-hinged-door combinations for larger walk-ins.
Every enclosure is digitally templated to your exact wet-zone footprint, fabricated to spec, and hung with lifetime-warrantied hardware (hinges, clamps, and seals). Most enclosures install bundled with a full Cascade ShowerWorks shower system. Standalone door swaps are available when the walls and base are still in good condition.
"Cascade ShowerWorks replaced our 1990s tub-shower combo with a tile-look walk-in in one day. The crew laid floor protection from the front door to the bathroom, hauled the old tub out, and we used the shower the next morning. Zero drama." (Verified Houston Google Review)
Frameless vs Semi-Frameless vs Framed: Pick the Right Style
Three enclosure styles dominate the shower market. Each has a different look, a different price, and a different failure mode. Below is the same comparison our designer walks every homeowner through.
Frameless enclosures offer a lifespan of 15 to 25+ years. With no metal frame to collect mildew or obscure the tile work, this style is the preferred choice for high-end master bathroom installations and resale value.
Maximum lifespan, minimal maintenance.
Frameless is the smart choice for homeowners looking for a long-term investment that showcases the interior of their new shower without the clutter of traditional hardware.
Semi-frameless enclosures typically last 10 to 18 years. They feature metal trim on the top and bottom edges only, providing structural stability while maintaining a significant portion of the "frameless" aesthetic at a lower price point.
Modern aesthetics, without the framed cost.
Semi-frameless offers a significantly cleaner look than traditional hardware-store kits, using higher-grade 5/16-inch glass that feels more substantial and operates more smoothly.
Framed enclosures generally have a lifespan of 5 to 10 years. The full metal perimeter provides stability for thinner glass but is prone to mildew buildup and faster seal degradation compared to upscale styles.
Full metal perimeter, dated aesthetics.
While cost-effective, framed kits are often seen as dated and require more frequent cleaning around the metal tracks to prevent mold and mineral deposits.
Glass Thickness: Why 3/8-Inch Tempered Beats 1/4-Inch Hardware-Store Glass
Glass thickness is not a marketing detail. It changes how the enclosure performs.
Cascade's default frameless spec is 3/8-inch tempered glass for the right balance of weight, lifespan, and door action. The 5/16-inch slider option is available for semi-frameless installs where the glass tracks rather than swings. We do not install 1/4-inch glass.
"All Cascade ShowerWorks glass is tempered, which means it is heat-treated to break into small dull pieces (instead of long sharp shards) on impact, per ANSI Z97.1 and CPSC 16 CFR 1201 Category II safety standards."
Hardware Finish Guide: Match Your Bath Fixtures
Hardware finish matters more than glass color. The wrong finish dates the bathroom. The right finish ties the shower to your faucets, lighting, and cabinet pulls.
Cascade ShowerWorks carries all five finishes in stock for the most-requested hinge, clamp, and handle styles. Special-order finishes (oil-rubbed bronze, antique copper, satin gold) add 2 to 4 weeks to lead time but install the same day once on-site.
The Templating Process: Why Digital Beats Tape Measure
Every Cascade ShowerWorks enclosure is digitally templated, not measured by hand. The difference is fit.

Shower Enclosure Cost: Standalone vs. Bundled
Cascade ShowerWorks shower enclosures install in two configurations. The pricing structure is intentionally different for each to provide maximum value based on your renovation scope.
Bundled with a Full Cascade ShowerWorks System
When your enclosure installs as part of a tub-to-shower conversion or full system replacement, the glass door is included in the system price. No separate enclosure invoice.
Standalone Enclosure or Door Replacement
When your existing walls and base are still sound and only the glass needs replacing, we quote the enclosure as a standalone job based on thickness, configuration, and hardware complexity.
Market range for frameless shower door installation: $900 to $3,500 for catalog hardware, and higher for custom configurations.

Hard Water and How to Keep Glass Clear
Houston tap water averages 9.4 grains per gallon hardness, which puts it in the "hard" category per the U.S. Geological Survey water-hardness scale. Hard water leaves mineral film on shower glass within 30 days of install if the glass is not maintained. The film is not a glass defect. It is calcium and magnesium that crystallize on the surface as the water evaporates. Standard glass cleaner does not remove it. Vinegar dissolves it. A daily microfiber wipe-down prevents it.

What We Do Not Recommend
What we do not recommend: bleach (etches the glass over time), abrasive scrubs (scratches), or commercial shower-cleaner sprays with ammonia (degrades the seal).

Frequently Asked Questions
Nine of the questions Houston homeowners ask us most often about shower enclosures and doors. Pricing, glass thickness, hard water maintenance, and licensing —all answered straight.
Bundled with a full Cascade ShowerWorks shower system, the frameless enclosure is included in the system price ($9,200 to $21,900 depending on series and footprint). Standalone frameless shower door replacement typically runs $900 to $3,500 for catalog hardware per HomeAdvisor's 2026 data, with custom oversized configurations going higher. Cascade ShowerWorks quotes standalone enclosures on the free in-home consult.
Frameless uses 3/8-inch tempered glass with no metal perimeter frame, only minimal hinges and clamps. Semi-frameless uses 5/16-inch glass with thin metal trim on top and bottom only. Framed (hardware-store kits) wraps the entire perimeter in metal and uses 1/4-inch glass. Frameless lasts 15 to 25+ years. Framed lasts 5 to 10. Cascade ShowerWorks installs only frameless and semi-frameless.
3/8-inch tempered for frameless enclosures. 5/16-inch tempered for semi-frameless sliders. 1/4-inch is hardware-store grade and is not what Cascade ShowerWorks installs. Thicker glass is heavier, sounds more solid in operation, and lasts longer.
For master bathrooms, yes. Frameless enclosures last 2 to 3 times longer than framed kits, look premium in resale photography, and contain spray more effectively because the gaps for door swing are sealed continuously rather than at metal corners. For rental properties or short-term-hold homes, semi-frameless or even a quality framed kit may be the right value choice.
Yes, by code in every U.S. jurisdiction. Untempered glass breaks into long sharp shards and is not legal for shower or bath enclosures. All Cascade ShowerWorks glass is tempered to ANSI Z97.1 and CPSC 16 CFR 1201 Category II safety standards.
When bundled with a full Cascade ShowerWorks shower system, the enclosure installs the same day as the walls and base (4:30 PM in the install timeline). Standalone enclosures install in 2 to 4 hours after the digital template arrives back from the manufacturer. The full project from template to install runs 1 to 3 weeks for catalog hardware finishes, 3 to 5 weeks for special-order finishes.
Yes, when the walls and base are still sound. Standalone door replacement is a smaller-scope job that templates, fabricates, and installs separately from a full system. The free in-home consult evaluates whether the walls can stay or whether the door failure is a symptom of broader wet-zone failure.
3/8-inch tempered frameless glass with an optional hydrophobic ceramic coating. Houston tap water at 9.4 grains per gallon hardness leaves mineral film on any glass within 30 days. The coating sheds water and slows bonding by 60 to 80 percent. A daily microfiber wipe-down is the single most effective prevention regardless of glass spec.
Yes. Texas RMP / Master Plumber License #[Insert Texas TSBPE License Number]. Full general liability and workers' compensation coverage. Sam Mueller installer certifications on every lead installer. BBB profile in good standing.
