5 Best Rated Walk-In Shower Companies in Katy and Cinco Ranch, Ranked by Who Understands a 20-Year-Old Builder Shower
If you are comparing the best rated walk in shower companies Katy homeowners hire, the useful question is not who has the nicest showroom. It is which company can look at a shower a production builder installed in 2003 and tell you exactly which parts of it are dead and which parts are still perfectly good.
Katy and Cinco Ranch are dominated by master planned production housing built between roughly 1995 and 2010. Cinco Ranch alone opened in 1991 and finished building out in 2020, ending at about 15,098 homes on 8,092 acres. Those homes went up fast, in volume, with the same short list of shower components in almost every one of them.
That is why this market has an unusual problem and an unusual opportunity at the same time. An entire subdivision worth of showers reaches end of life inside the same few years, and almost none of them need structural work to fix. This ranking is published by Cascade Showerworks, we are first on it, and the criteria are printed below so you can score us against everyone else.

How We Ranked the Walk-In Shower Companies Serving Katy
Katy is a high volume remodeling market, which means every national bath brand runs ads here and a lot of them have never opened up a builder grade shower west of the Grand Parkway. We weighted the criteria below toward what a 15 to 25 year old production home actually needs: correct diagnosis of a failed builder assembly, a named waterproofing system to replace it, and a crew that can finish inside one day because the framing and the plumbing are not moving.
This ranking is published by Cascade Showerworks. We are on the list, and we are first on it, so the fair thing to do is show you exactly what we measured and let you check every claim yourself. Every company below is a real business with a verified address, phone number, and Google Business Profile linked in its section.

What We Measured
- Shower specializationHow much of the company's work is showers rather than kitchens, floors, and whole-bath gut jobs
- Installer modelCertified W2 employees who set showers daily versus rotating subcontract crews
- Waterproofing systemA named, tested waterproofing assembly rather than "we seal it well"
- Install timelineDays the bathroom is out of service, and whether the quoted timeline is contractual
- Pricing transparencyOne flat written number before demolition versus an estimate that moves
- WarrantyLength, what it actually covers, and whether it transfers to the next owner
- Local accountabilityLocally owned and reachable versus a franchise territory or a call center
- Public ratingGoogle rating and review volume, verified at the time of writing
We did not rank on advertising spend, showroom size, or how many services a company offers. A walk-in shower is a waterproofing project with glass on it, and the companies that do it best are the ones that do it most.

The 5 Best Rated Walk-In Shower Companies in Katy, Side by Side
All five of these are real businesses with verified addresses and phone numbers, and all five will work in Katy and Cinco Ranch. One of them is headquartered here. They do not do the same job. Two build showers as a specialty. Two are dealer or franchise operations built around a manufactured system. One is a full bathroom remodeler that sells showers as part of a larger scope.

Rank order follows the criteria in the section above. It is not a claim that four good companies are bad companies. If your project is an acrylic conversion in a Cinco Ranch secondary bath, the company at number four may quote it faster than the company at number one.

Call (346) 678-4776What Katy Production Builders Actually Put in Your Bathroom Between 1995 and 2010
Production housing is repeatable by design. That is how a builder puts up two hundred homes in a season in Cinco Ranch or Seven Meadows, and it is why a shower in one Katy subdivision looks like a shower three subdivisions away.
It also means the failures are repeatable. Once you know what went in, you know what is wrong, and you can stop guessing at three wildly different quotes.
The Short List of What Went In
A one-piece or three-piece fiberglass tub shower unit in the secondary and hall baths, 60 inches wide, set against the studs before the drywall went up
A builder tile shower in the primary bath, ceramic tile over a mortar bed on a PVC or CPE pan liner, usually with a clamping-ring point drain
A cultured marble pan, threshold and vanity top, poured offsite in a gel-coated mold and cut to the builder standard dimension
A plastic-bodied pressure balance valve with a plastic or thin brass cartridge behind an escutcheon that was never meant to be serviced twice
A framed aluminum bypass or pivot shower door with a vinyl bottom sweep, a bottom track that traps water, and self-tapping screws through the finish
A bath exhaust fan ducted straight into the attic, or ducted to a flex line that fell off the roof jack sometime in the first decade
Silicone or acrylic latex caulk in place of a movement joint at every wall to floor and inside corner, because caulk is fast and a designed joint is not
Why the Build Years Matter So Much Here
Katy sits at the tripoint of Harris, Fort Bend and Waller counties about 29 miles west of downtown Houston, and it grew outward along Interstate 10 in a compressed window. Cinco Ranch opened in 1991 with 35 homes sold and 110 under construction and finished in 2020 at roughly 15,098 homes, split into Cinco Ranch I at about 8,740 homes and Cinco Ranch II at about 6,358.
A shower assembly built in 1998 does not fail on a schedule, but it does fail in a band. Fifteen to twenty-five years is that band for these components on the Gulf Coast, which is why entire streets in Katy are getting shower quotes in the same year.
This Is Also Why Quotes Vary So Much
Three companies walk into the same 2001 Grand Lakes bathroom and see three different projects. One sees an acrylic drop-in. One sees a full gut. One sees a pan rebuild with a bonded membrane and the existing drain reused.
All three can be defensible. What is not defensible is a company that has not opened the wall, has not checked the pan for a pre-slope, and still gave you a number.

What They Do
Cascade Showerworks installs showers and nothing else. No vanities, no flooring, no kitchens, no whole-bath gut jobs. Tub to shower conversions, walk-in shower replacements, curbless and barrier-free showers, glass enclosures, and the waterproofing and drain work underneath all of it.
The systems are Samuel Mueller and Transolid solid surface and cast acrylic, sold in three series with published price bands: Pioneer at $9,200 to $14,400, BelAir at $11,800 to $17,600, and Luxura at $14,400 to $21,900. Those numbers are printed on the company website, which very few results in a walk in shower companies near me search will do.
Who They Are Right For
The Katy or Cinco Ranch homeowner whose shower has failed but whose bathroom has not. That is the majority of the work in this market: the vanity is fine, the tile floor is fine, the layout is fine, and the 2002 fiberglass unit is cracked at the base and cannot be repaired.
A shower specialist is also the right call when the diagnosis matters more than the design. Knowing whether a builder mud pan was set with a pre-slope, whether a valve body can be reused, and whether the drain sits where the new base needs it are the three answers that decide the price.
How They Install
Certified W2 employees, not rotating subcontractors, with lead installers carrying Samuel Mueller certification identification. The standard shower install runs one day, roughly 7:30 in the morning to 5:30 in the evening, with the shower usable after the silicone cures overnight.
That one-day model fits Katy production housing better than it fits older Houston stock, because the framing, the drain location and the supply lines in a 1995 to 2010 home are usually correct and do not have to be rebuilt before the new shower goes in.
How Cascade installs — step by step
Step 1 of 5

Certified W2 employees, not rotating subcontractors. The cast iron branch and galvanized supply get inspected before the price is set, and plumbing line items are quoted on their own days rather than folded into the one-day promise.
Verified Credentials
| Credential | What It Means on a Memorial Shower |
|---|---|
| Shower-only specialist, not a general remodeler taking shower work between kitchens | Every crew day is a shower day — the wall assembly answer comes from repetition, not from a subcontractor briefed that morning |
| Samuel Mueller certified installers carrying certification identification on the job | A named, tested waterproofing assembly rather than a promise to seal it well |
| Certified W2 crews, never rotating subcontract labor | The same people who measured your floor are the ones building on it |
| A+ BBB rated and 4.9 star Google rated across 30-plus verified reviews | Verify it live before you sign, the same way you should verify everyone on this page |
| One day installs on standard shower systems, which suits a Katy home with sound framing and a drain already in the right place | The one-day promise does not absorb drain relocation or branch line replacement — those are quoted and scheduled separately |
| Flat written pricing with no surprise change orders after demolition | The number you sign is the number; changes require your written approval before we proceed |
| Lifetime transferable warranty that follows the house to the next owner | It follows the house, which matters in Memorial where homes trade well above Harris County averages |
The Caveat
If you want the vanity, mirror, lighting, floor tile and closet handled in the same contract, Cascade is not the whole answer. They will build the shower and coordinate around your other trades, but you are hiring a second contractor for the rest of the room.
That is the tradeoff of a specialist, and it is deliberate. The company is first on this list because of what it refuses to do, not in spite of it.
Why It Ranks First
Shower-only specialization. Certified W2 crews. A named waterproofing assembly. A one-day install window scheduled around City of Houston inspections. A flat written price. A lifetime transferable warranty. The criteria line up because the company does one thing, repeatedly.

What They Do
Simplicity Bath & Shower operates out of Crosswater Lane in Katy, 77494, and covers greater Houston from there. The company builds solid surface showers, custom showers, tub to shower conversions, walk-in tubs, and complete bathroom remodels including cabinets, vanities and countertops.
They also market accessible and aging-in-place work as a stated specialty. That matters in Katy, where a large share of the original Cinco Ranch and Kelliwood buyers have now been in the same house for twenty years and are remodeling to stay.
Who They Are Right For
The Katy homeowner who wants the shower and the rest of the bathroom handled under one contract, and who prefers a grout-free solid surface finish to tile. Simplicity states on its own website that it works from upfront pricing without a high-pressure sales presentation, which is not universal in this category.
They are also the shortest drive on this list. For a shower remodel Katy TX project where the scope creeps past the shower into the vanity wall, that proximity is a real advantage on scheduling and on punch list work.
How They Install
In-house teams on a project schedule rather than a fixed one-day model. Timeline moves with scope, and a full bath remodel through Simplicity will run considerably longer than a shower swap. The company states more than twenty years in the remodeling industry.
The Caveat
A wider service menu means the depth of experience on any one assembly is a question worth asking directly. If your project is specifically a failed builder mud pan, ask how they intend to rebuild the pan and what membrane goes over it.
Scope also has a way of expanding when the same company sells cabinets and countertops. That is not a criticism of the work, it is a reason to define the scope in writing before the design appointment ends.
When This Is the Right Call
If the scope grows past the shower into the vanity wall, countertop, or the closet next to it, a design-build company managing all of it has a real coordination advantage over multiple trades.

What They Do
Re-Bath is a national bathroom remodeling franchise, and the Houston location operates from North Sam Houston Parkway West. The scope is the whole bathroom: tub to shower conversions, shower and tub replacements, accessible and ADA-oriented bathrooms, walk-in tubs, flooring, vanities and lighting.
The company runs a design center model with in-house designers and its own product lines, so selections happen in a showroom rather than out of a sample case on your kitchen table.
Who They Are Right For
A Katy homeowner replacing an entire dated bathroom in one contract with one point of accountability. In a 1998 Cinco Ranch secondary bath where the cultured marble vanity top, the cultured marble shower pan, the framed aluminum door and the flooring are all original and all tired, that is a reasonable way to buy.
It is also a sensible model if you value a showroom selection process and a national warranty structure over a local specialist relationship.
How They Install
Re-Bath advertises most standard bathroom remodels completing in roughly three to five days using its proprietary installation process and product system, with installation handled by franchise-managed crews and licensed trades.
The Caveat
Franchise means the sign is national and the crew is local, and the crew is the part that installs your shower. Ask who specifically is doing the work, whether they are employees of the franchise, and how a warranty claim gets routed two years from now.
If your bathroom is fine and only the shower has failed, this model prices a larger project than the one you have. That is not a flaw in the model, it is a mismatch worth naming before the design appointment.
The Full-Bath Advantage
If the 1965 hall bath needs everything — flooring, vanity, fixtures, lighting and the shower — one company managing all of it has a real coordination advantage over four trades with you as the general contractor.

What They Do
Luxury Bath of Houston, formerly Bath Planet of Greater Houston, is a dealer in a national acrylic bath system network serving the Houston market. The product line covers replacement tubs, shower systems, walk-in tubs, tub to shower conversions and barrier-free roll-in bases, all built around molded acrylic warranted not to crack, chip or fade.
Who They Are Right For
The tub to shower conversion Katy homeowner who wants a secondary bath or a rental property handled quickly, cleanly, and inside the footprint that already exists. Katy production housing is full of 60 inch alcoves that were framed to a standard dimension, which is exactly the condition an acrylic system is engineered around.
It is also a fair option for an aging-in-place upgrade where a low threshold base and a grab bar solve the problem and a full curbless build is more project than the situation calls for.
How They Install
The system is designed for a one-day installation in an existing opening, using dealer installation crews. The dealer network model means each location is independently owned and operated, so the install experience is local under a national brand.
The Caveat
An acrylic system is built to fit the opening you have. That is the entire value proposition and also the limit. If you want to take the linen closet next door and build a 60 by 36 curbless shower in a Cinco Ranch primary bath, the fixed panel sizes stop being an advantage.
The published address for this dealer is a Houston 77073 service area listing rather than a storefront you can walk into, so confirm where the crew dispatches from and who holds the warranty before you sign.
When Acrylic Makes Sense
For a Memorial guest bath or second bathroom where the existing footprint works and speed matters, a fitted acrylic system is a sensible and well-proven answer. No grout to maintain, one-day install, and a defined warranty on the product.

What They Do
EZ Bath is a family-owned bathroom remodeling company based in Tomball, covering the greater Houston metro. The work is full bathroom remodels, tub to shower conversions, shower remodels, walk-in tubs, bathtub work and vanities.
The company states on its own site that it builds with named product partners including Onyx Collection solid surface, Kerdi waterproofing, Delta fixtures and Bishop cabinets, which is more supply chain transparency than most companies in this category publish.
Who They Are Right For
A homeowner who wants a bathroom done quickly by a small family-run operation and cares more about turnaround and cost than about a shower specialist relationship. EZ Bath advertises a compressed schedule that gets a standard conversion done inside the same week.
How They Install
In-house crews on a tight multi-day schedule, with a limited warranty on labor and installation layered under the manufacturer warranties from its product partners.
The Caveat
Tomball to Katy is the longest commute on this list, and it runs across the top of the Grand Parkway rather than down a freeway. That matters on a multi-day schedule and it matters more on a warranty call two years later.
The fast-turnaround model is also built around conventional curbed installations in an existing opening. A curbless build on a post-tension Cinco Ranch slab is a different job and should be priced as one.
The Named-Partner Advantage
Publishing product partners before the contract is signed is a meaningful gesture of transparency. Kerdi waterproofing named on the website is a more specific answer than "we use premium materials."

How Every Piece of a Builder-Grade Katy Shower Fails on the Gulf Coast
Every one of these components has a specific failure mode, and the Houston climate accelerates most of them. High humidity, long cooling seasons, hot attics and hard water are the four accelerants.
The Fiberglass Tub Shower Unit Cracks Where It Flexes
A fiberglass unit is a thin gel-coated shell. Its stiffness comes from the mortar or shim bed it was set on and from the sidewalls it was fastened to, and where either of those is imperfect, the shell flexes under weight every time somebody steps in.
Flex plus twenty years of thermal cycling equals fatigue cracks, and they show up in the same three places: radiating from the base corners, along the front apron where the floor is unsupported, and at the base to wall seam on a three-piece unit where two molded pieces were joined on site.
A crack you can feel underfoot is a structural failure of the base, not a cosmetic one. Repair kits and inlays exist and they buy time. They do not restore stiffness, and water that has already been through a crack has been in the wall cavity for a while.
The Builder Tile Shower Fails at the Pan, Not at the Tile
The primary bath tile shower in a 1990s or 2000s Katy home was almost always built as a mortar bed pan over a sheet liner with a clamping-ring drain. That is a legitimate assembly when it is built correctly. The failure is that production tile crews frequently skipped the pre-slope.
A pre-slope is a sloped mortar bed under the liner, so water that gets through the tile and grout, which it always does, runs across the liner to the weep holes in the drain. With no pre-slope the liner sits flat and the mortar bed above it stays saturated forever.
What a Saturated Pan Actually Does
It smells. It grows biological film in the mortar. It pushes efflorescence up through the grout joints and leaves white haze that returns after every cleaning. Grout stays dark for days after the shower is used. In the worst cases the mortar bed loses cohesion and the floor tile sounds hollow underfoot.
None of that is a grout problem, which is why regrouting a builder shower with a flat pan is money set on fire. The assembly under the tile is what failed.
The Weep Holes Are Usually Packed
Weep holes in a clamping-ring drain only work if they are protected with gravel or a weep guard. Production crews often packed mortar right over them. Once they are blocked, the liner is a bathtub instead of a drainage plane, and the pan has nowhere to release water even when the slope is right.
Cultured Marble Yellows and Crazes
Cultured marble is a resin and calcium carbonate casting with a clear gel coat on the surface. All of its water resistance lives in that gel coat, which is a few thousandths of an inch thick.
Twenty years of hot water, abrasive cleaners and ultraviolet exposure through a bathroom window breaks the gel coat down. It yellows first, then crazes into a network of fine surface cracks, and once the crazing reaches the substrate the panel absorbs water and stains permanently. Katy has a lot of cultured marble pans, thresholds and vanity tops, and they are all aging on the same curve.
Plastic-Bodied Valves Are the Hidden Line Item
A plastic-bodied pressure balance valve was a builder cost decision. The body is not brass, the cartridge is often proprietary to a discontinued line, and the seats are not serviceable in the way a homeowner assumes.
When a valve of that generation is opened for the first time in twenty years, cartridges seize, plastic gets brittle, and the escutcheon screws strip. Any company quoting your Katy shower should tell you whether they intend to reuse the valve, replace the trim only, or replace the valve body, and what that costs. If nobody mentions the valve, they have not planned the job.
Framed Aluminum Doors Fail at the Track
The bottom track of a framed bypass door is a channel that collects water by design and drains it through weep slots that clog with soap film and hair. What sits in that channel is water, and what the channel is fastened through is the finished surface of your pan or threshold.
The vinyl sweep hardens and shrinks. The track corrodes and pits. The self-tapping screws that hold the jambs go through the wall surface into a shim, and every one of those penetrations is a path. On Katy homes, this is the single most common source of the black mildew line at the base of the shower wall.
The Bath Fan That Was Never Ducted Outside
This one is not the shower and it is the reason the shower looks worse than it is. A bath fan discharging into a Katy attic dumps moisture into an unconditioned space that runs well over 130 degrees in August and drops below dew point on winter nights.
The result is condensation on the roof deck, damp insulation, and a bathroom that never actually dries. Grout stays dark, caulk molds, and the homeowner blames the shower. Any competent shower remodel in a production home should include a look at where that duct terminates.
Caulk Doing the Job of a Movement Joint
The tile industry standard calls for a flexible movement joint at every change of plane and at the perimeter, not a grout joint. In a production build, that requirement was met with a bead of caulk applied at the end of the job by whoever was still on site.
Caulk is not a movement joint. A movement joint is a designed gap, backed correctly, filled with an appropriate flexible sealant, and detailed to move. What Katy homes got instead is a bead that shrinks, splits, and then hides the split under a second bead applied by the homeowner three years later.
The Twenty Minute Inspection You Can Do Before Anyone Quotes It
Stand in the shower and shift your weight side to side. Any flex, creak or drum sound in a fiberglass base means the base is unsupported and cracking is coming
Tap the floor tile with a knuckle across the whole pan. A hollow or dead sound in a tile shower usually means a mortar bed that has lost bond or saturation underneath
Look at how long the grout stays dark after a shower. More than a few hours in a ventilated bathroom points at a pan holding water, not at grout that needs sealing
Run a fingernail along the caulk line at the wall to floor joint. Splits, layered beads and black staining behind the bead mean water has been getting behind it
Check the cultured marble threshold under a bright light for yellowing and fine crazing, which tells you the gel coat is done regardless of how the tile looks
Pull the door track back at one end if a screw is already loose and look at the fastener holes, because that is where water has been entering the wall
Go into the attic and find the bath fan duct. If it ends short of a roof jack or has fallen off one, your humidity problem is not the shower
The Good News: Why a 15 to 25 Year Old Katy Shower Is the Best Value Remodel in Houston
Everything above is what is wrong. Here is what is right, and it is the reason we tell Katy homeowners this is the best money in the Houston shower market.
At fifteen to twenty-five years, the finishes are done and the structure is not. In an older Houston neighborhood you open a shower wall and find galvanized supply lines, cast iron drains, undersized framing and a slab that has moved. In Katy you usually do not.
What Is Usually Still Fine
The framing. Kiln dried lumber from the late 1990s and 2000s, dry, straight, and generally with the blocking a builder was required to install
The drain location. Production plans repeat, so the drain is where the plan put it, and a replacement base of the same footprint usually lands on the existing rough in
The supply lines. Copper or early PEX rather than galvanized steel, which means no descaling, no pinholes from sixty years of service, and no repipe hiding in your quote
The vent stack. Sized and installed under a modern code cycle rather than added to over decades
The slab. Twenty years of settlement in these subdivisions has largely happened, and most of these homes sit on post-tension slabs engineered for Gulf Coast clay
The electrical. Ground fault protection was already required in bathrooms during this build era, so a shower project rarely turns into an electrical project
What That Does to the Money
Budget Collapse on Repairs, Expansion on Finishes
When the framing, the drain and the supplies survive, the repair budget collapses and the finish budget expands. You are not paying a plumber to move a drain, a carpenter to sister a joist, or a foundation contractor to give an opinion. You are paying for a pan, a membrane, a surface, glass and labor.
Visibly Better Showers on a Flat, Written Price
That is why the same dollar figure buys a visibly better shower in Katy than it does in a 1950s inner-loop bathroom. It is the same reason a walk in shower cost Katy estimate should look simpler than a Bellaire or Heights estimate, and why it should be flat and written rather than a range with a discovery clause in it.
Where the Value Sits by Component
Tub to Shower Conversion Katy and the Curbless Question in a Production Home
The single most common project in this market is the 60 inch alcove. A builder framed it, dropped a tub into it, and it is still exactly 60 inches wide today.
That standard dimension is what makes a tub to shower conversion Katy project fast and predictable, and it is also what limits the design if nobody is willing to move a wall.
What Fits in the Opening You Have
The Curbless Reality on a Post-Tension Slab
Most Katy and Cinco Ranch homes built from the mid 1990s forward sit on post-tension slabs, which are concrete slabs with high-strength steel tendons stressed under enormous load after the pour. You do not saw cut those on a hunch.
Any curbless walk in shower Katy quote on a home of this era should include a ground-penetrating radar scan as its own line item, typically a few hundred dollars, before a blade touches concrete. If tendons run through the bathroom, recessing the slab is off the table and the answer becomes one of the other two methods.
The Three Methods, Ranked for This Housing Stock
Method One: Slab Recess
Method one is saw-cutting and recessing the slab, which produces a true flush floor and is the least likely method to be available in Katy because of the tendons.
Method Two: Raised Bathroom Floor
Method two raises the entire bathroom floor 1.5 to 2 inches and keeps the shower at slab height, which works on any slab and moves the problem to the door, the casing, the toilet flange and the vanity toe kick.
Method Three: Shallow Ramped Entry with Low-Profile Bonded Linear Drain
Method three is a shallow ramped entry with a low-profile bonded linear drain that needs roughly 3/4 inch of assembly thickness instead of the 1-1/4 to 2 inches a traditional clamping-ring drain wants. Nothing structural happens, and a walker, a cane or a shower chair clears a half inch rise without complaint. It is not an ADA roll-in, and anyone selling it as one is overselling.
Curbless and Barrier-Free Specification Table
Acrylic and Solid Surface Versus Tile in a Katy Production Home
This is where a Katy budget actually gets decided, and the right answer depends on how much of the bathroom you intend to touch.
Solid Surface and Cast Acrylic
One-piece or panelized walls with no grout joints anywhere. Nothing to seal, nothing to scrub, and a wall assembly that goes in inside a single day because it is manufactured before it arrives rather than built on your studs.
In this housing stock that advantage compounds. The framing is already sound and the drain is already correct, so a panelized system has nothing to wait on. This is the combination that makes a genuine one-day install realistic in Katy rather than aspirational.
Porcelain Tile
The default for a custom look, and the only surface that gives you a continuous floor plane running from inside the shower out into the bathroom with no material change at the opening. Porcelain absorbs less than half a percent water by weight, which is the correct property for a Gulf Coast bathroom.
If you go tile, the whole conversation moves to what is under it. A bonded sheet or liquid membrane over a properly sloped pan, real movement joints at every change of plane, and a drain matched to the membrane system. That is the assembly the builder did not give you, and it is what you are actually buying.
Cultured Marble, One More Time
Cultured marble is still sold, and a like-for-like replacement pan runs roughly $4,000 to $8,000 installed in current market data. Before you buy that, understand that you are buying the same gel-coated resin casting that is failing in your bathroom right now, on the same clock.
Surface Comparison for a Katy Shower
Permits and Inspections: Katy Spans Three Counties, So Verify Your Authority First
This is the part that trips up more Katy projects than any structural question, and it has nothing to do with the shower.
Katy sits at the tripoint of Harris, Fort Bend and Waller counties. Katy ISD covers 181 square miles across all three, and most of the district lies inside the City of Houston, the City of Katy, or the extraterritorial jurisdiction of one of them. Cinco Ranch, Barker and Cimarron are unincorporated. A Katy mailing address tells you almost nothing about who inspects your bathroom.
Inside the City of Katy
The City of Katy Building Department is at 901 Avenue C, Katy, TX 77493, open 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, reachable at 281-391-4830 or katypermits@cityofkaty.com. Permits are required for remodeling, for heating and air conditioning work, for electrical and plumbing work, and for any work involving the addition or removal of walls.
The city has adopted the 2021 International Building Codes and the 2023 National Electrical Code. Inspections are scheduled through the Civic Access portal at energov2.cityofkaty.com. A credit card convenience fee of 3.95 percent or $3.00, whichever is greater, applies to permit fees.
Unincorporated Harris County
Most of north Katy along the Harris County side is unincorporated. The Harris County Office of the County Engineer handles development permitting, and its residential permit categories center on new residential construction and on-site sewage facilities rather than interior remodeling.
That does not mean nothing applies. State plumbing licensure still governs who may do the plumbing work, deed restrictions and MUD rules still apply, and if your project touches drainage or the right of way, that is a county permit. Confirm your specific scope with the county rather than assuming.
Unincorporated Fort Bend County, Which Includes Most of Cinco Ranch
Fort Bend County publishes its permit list at 301 Jackson Street in Richmond, reachable at 281-342-3411, with Engineering open Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. The county permits mass gatherings, right of way and drainage ditch work, engineering and development, environmental health, fire safety, alarms and game rooms.
There is no county residential building permit for an interior bathroom remodel on that list. What governs a Cinco Ranch shower instead is your deed restrictions, your HOA architectural review if the work is visible, your MUD, and state plumbing licensure. Ask the county directly about your scope before anyone tells you a permit is not needed.
The City of Houston Edge and the Waller County Edge
Some Katy-addressed property on the eastern side falls inside City of Houston limits or its ETJ. Inside the city, a residential remodel permit goes through Houston Public Works at the Houston Permitting Center, 1002 Washington Avenue, filed through iPermits, and a plumbing fixture permit must be pulled by a master plumber registered with the City of Houston. Showers are not an exempt fixture there.
On the Waller County side, the incorporated portion is City of Katy and permits through the city. Outside city limits, verify with the county before scheduling anything.
Who Pulls What in the Katy Area
What to Ask Before You Sign, on Permits Alone
Which jurisdiction is my house in? The answer should be a named office, not the word Katy
Are you pulling the permit, or am I? A homeowner-pulled permit shifts liability onto the homeowner
Who is the licensed plumber on this job? Name and license, not a job title
Does my scope require a permit in my jurisdiction? A surface replacement in the same footprint often does not, but confirm rather than assume
If we go curbless, does the slab work change the permit picture? Concrete work and drain relocation usually do
Will you schedule the inspection or leave it to me? Unpermitted bathroom work surfaces at resale, in an appraisal, and in an insurance claim after a leak
Katy and Cinco Ranch Neighborhoods, Build Years, and Where We Work
Knowing the build year of your subdivision tells you most of what you need to know about your shower before anybody opens a wall.
Katy incorporated in 1945 as a railroad town on the Missouri Kansas Texas line, and the city itself still only covers about 15.3 square miles with roughly 25,000 residents. Everything most people mean by Katy is the far larger unincorporated area around it that filled in after Interstate 10 opened west in 1966 and then exploded from the 1990s forward.
Reading Your Subdivision Like a Build Date
Cinco Ranch, opened 1991 and built out in 2020, about 15,098 homes on 8,092 acres, split into Cinco Ranch I and the newer Cinco Ranch Southwest and Northwest sections
Nottingham Country, Memorial Parkway and Cimarron, the older Katy corridor, generally pre-dating the 1995 wave and more likely to have a builder tile shower over a mud pan
Kelliwood and Green Trails, the late 1980s and early 1990s tier, which is now past the twenty-five year mark on every original shower component
Grand Lakes, Seven Meadows and Falcon Ranch, the core 1999 to 2010 production wave, which is squarely in the failure band right now
Firethorne, Pine Mill Ranch, Silver Ranch and Westheimer Lakes, the late 2000s tier, where showers are starting to show early crazing and door track corrosion
Cane Island, Elyson and the newest sections, where the shower is not failing yet and the conversation is usually a tub to shower conversion by preference rather than by necessity
The Barker Reservoir Context, Briefly
Barker Reservoir sits in western Harris County southwest of the Interstate 10 and State Highway 6 intersection, behind a rolled earthen dam 72,900 feet long. It holds 209,000 acre-feet, and combined with Addicks the pair hold roughly 410,000 acre-feet.
During Hurricane Harvey in 2017 the Army Corps of Engineers operated the dams in a way that submerged about 7,000 acres of private land upstream, and litigation that followed established that more than 20,000 homes and 24,000 privately owned parcels sat inside a federal flood control project flood pool that many owners did not know existed.
This is a shower page, not a flood page, so the only relevant point is a practical one. If your home has taken water at floor level, tell your shower contractor before the estimate, because it changes what should be assumed about the wall base, the substrate and what is behind the shower surround.
Water, MUDs, and Why Glass Care Varies by Street
Katy water service is fragmented. The City of Katy runs its own system through Public Works at 5454 Franz Road, and most of the surrounding subdivisions are served by municipal utility districts. The West Harris County Regional Water Authority, created by the Texas Legislature in 2001, delivers surface water to 70 water plants across 49 districts and includes the cities of Katy and Houston in its service area.
That conversion from groundwater to surface water is driven by Harris-Galveston Subsidence District targets of 60 percent alternative water by 2025 and 80 percent by 2035. What it means for you is that hardness and mineral content differ from one Katy MUD to the next, so check your own district water quality report rather than assuming. A factory-applied protective glass coating and a squeegee handle the rest.
Where We Work
Cascade Showerworks runs out of 1800 Sherwood Forest Street in Houston, a straight run west on Interstate 10 to Katy and Cinco Ranch. We cover the full Katy ISD footprint across Harris, Fort Bend and Waller counties.
That includes Cinco Ranch and Cinco Ranch Southwest, Grand Lakes, Seven Meadows, Kelliwood, Nottingham Country, Memorial Parkway, Cimarron, Green Trails, Falcon Ranch, Pine Mill Ranch, Firethorne, Silver Ranch, Grayson Lakes, Westheimer Lakes, Williamsburg Colony, Cane Island, Elyson, Katy Lakes, Old Katy and the Cane Island Creek corridor, plus the Energy Corridor and Barker on the eastern edge.
Walk In Shower Cost Katy: What These Projects Run in 2026
Houston market data for 2026 puts an installed walk-in shower at an average near $8,874, with the common band running roughly $5,916 to $11,832. National figures line up: about $8,000 average with a $5,000 to $11,000 typical range, prefabricated systems at $2,000 to $8,000 and custom builds at $5,000 to $20,000.
Tub to shower conversion averages sit far lower, near $2,958, because that number is loaded with acrylic drop-in conversions in existing alcoves where nothing structural is touched. In Katy that is not a fantasy scenario. It is the most common scenario, which is exactly the point of this page.
Cascade Showerworks publishes its price bands rather than holding them behind a design presentation. The Pioneer series in compression-molded solid surface runs $9,200 to $14,400, the BelAir series in cast acrylic runs $11,800 to $17,600, and the Luxura series runs $14,400 to $21,900. Pan rebuilds, valve replacement and permits are quoted on top of that, in writing, before anything is torn out.
Pioneer Series
Compression-molded solid surface walls and base, one day install
BelAir Series
Cast acrylic with reversible bookmatched panels
Luxura Series
Cast acrylic plus solid surface, top of the line

Line Items That Move Your Katy Number
That share is one of the strongest arguments for a specialist in this market: a crew that sets the same system every day finishes a Katy alcove in a day, and a crew assembled per job does not.

The Questions That Separate Them
Questions to Ask Before You Sign With Any Walk In Shower Company in Katy
Three companies will quote your bathroom and the numbers will be thousands apart. In Katy the spread is almost never the tile you picked. It is what each company assumes about the assembly the builder left behind.
Did my builder pan have a pre-slope, and how will you find out?
The answer you wantThe correct answer involves opening it, not guessing from the tile
What waterproofing system are you installing, by manufacturer?
The answer you wantOne tested system with a matched drain, not a membrane from one brand and a drain from another
Are you replacing the pressure balance valve or reusing it?
The answer you wantA plastic body from 2002 should be a named line item either way
Is my slab post-tension, and will you scan it?
The answer you wantRadar as a line item on any curbless build, not a shrug
Which jurisdiction permits my address?
The answer you wantA named office. City of Katy, City of Houston, or a county, and they should already know
Where does my bath fan duct terminate?
The answer you wantA company that never looks in the attic is going to leave your humidity problem in place
Are the installers your W2 employees?
The answer you wantA named certified crew, not one that changes between the estimate and the install
Is my price flat and written before demolition?
The answer you wantThe only acceptable change is a written change order you approve first
Does the warranty transfer to the next owner?
The answer you wantIn a market with Katy turnover rates, a transferable warranty is worth real money
Answer Key
Answer Key

|---|---|---|
| Pre-slope diagnosis | We open the pan and show you | Your grout just needs sealing |
| Waterproofing system | Named product with a matched drain body | We use a good membrane |
| Valve | Replaced, with the model named on the quote | We will see when we open it |
| Post-tension slab | Radar scan quoted as its own line item | We have never had a problem |
| Permit jurisdiction | Names your actual city or county office | Katy does not require permits |
| Bath fan | Checked the attic, quoted the duct correction | That is not part of a shower job |
| Movement joints | Marked on a drawing at every change of plane | We caulk the corners |
| Crew employment | W2 employees, certified, the same crew | Our installers are all vetted |

Walk-In Shower Questions Katy and Cinco Ranch Homeowners Ask
10 of the questions Katy and Cinco Ranch homeowners ask us most often. Costs, permits, and second-floor engineering — all answered straight, with the actual numbers.
This page ranks five: Cascade Showerworks, Simplicity Bath & Shower, Re-Bath Houston, Luxury Bath of Houston and EZ Bath. Cascade publishes the ranking and is first on it, measured against shower specialization, installer model, waterproofing system, timeline, pricing transparency, warranty, local accountability and public rating. Every criterion is printed near the top of this page so you can score them yourself.
If the base flexes, if the grout stays dark for a day after use, if the cultured marble has crazed, or if the caulk line at the wall to floor joint has been recaulked more than once, the assembly is at end of life rather than in need of maintenance. Regrouting or recaulking a builder pan with no pre-slope buys months, not years, and the water has already been getting behind the surface for a while.
It depends entirely on which authority your address falls under, which is the single most misunderstood thing about this market. Inside City of Katy limits, remodeling, plumbing and electrical work all require permits through the Building Department at 901 Avenue C. In unincorporated Harris or Fort Bend County, including most of Cinco Ranch, there is no county residential remodel permit on the published list, though state plumbing licensure, deed restrictions and MUD rules still apply. On the eastern edge, City of Houston rules apply and a plumbing fixture permit must be pulled by a City registered master plumber.
Because tile and grout are not the waterproofing, the pan under them is. Production tile crews in this era frequently set the liner flat with no pre-slope and packed mortar over the drain weep holes, which turns the pan into a basin that never drains. The tile can look perfect while the mortar bed above the liner stays saturated permanently. That is why the fix is a pan rebuild with a bonded membrane, not a regrout.
Houston 2026 data puts an installed walk-in shower near $8,874 on average, with a common band of about $5,916 to $11,832, and tub to shower conversions averaging closer to $2,958 because so many are acrylic drop-ins in an existing alcove. Cascade publishes system pricing from $9,200 to $21,900 by series. A builder tile shower rebuilt correctly with a pre-sloped pan and a bonded membrane runs roughly $12,000 to $22,000, and curbless adds $600 to $4,500 depending on method.
Usually, but not by cutting the concrete. Most Katy and Cinco Ranch homes from the mid 1990s forward are on post-tension slabs, and those tendons cannot be saw cut without a ground-penetrating radar scan clearing the path first. The practical answers here are raising the bathroom floor 1.5 to 2 inches and keeping the shower at slab height, or a shallow ramped entry with a low-profile bonded linear drain that needs about 3/4 inch of assembly thickness.
On a standard system install in an existing footprint, yes, and this housing stock is the reason. The framing is sound, the drain is where the plan put it, and the supply lines are copper or PEX rather than galvanized, so there is nothing to repair before the new assembly goes in. Add days when a pan is rebuilt for tile, when a wall moves, when a garden tub comes out, or when a permitted jurisdiction schedules inspections.
Only if you are matching an existing vanity top you intend to keep. A like-for-like cultured marble replacement runs roughly $4,000 to $8,000 installed and puts the same gel-coated resin casting back into the same bathroom, aging on the same curve. For most Katy homeowners a solid surface or cast acrylic base at a similar cost is a better outcome, because there is no gel coat to craze.
Often it is the exhaust fan rather than the shower. A large share of Katy production homes have bath fans that discharge into the attic or into a flex duct that separated from its roof jack years ago. That puts every shower worth of moisture back into an unconditioned space that swings from over 130 degrees in summer to below dew point on winter nights. Correcting the duct is a few hundred dollars and it should be quoted alongside the shower.
Removing the last tub in the house can, particularly with the family buyers this market attracts. Katy production homes almost always have a tub in a secondary bath, which makes converting the primary to a walk-in shower a clear upgrade rather than a tradeoff. A grout-free system with a lifetime transferable warranty is a stronger position still, because the warranty follows the house to the next owner.
